We’ll be celebrating the 10th Llandovery Sheep Festival this year on 21stand 22nd September and we’ve got a super line up of activities and events taking place throughout the whole weekend. The Sheep festival is all about celebrating our local farming and drovers heritage, showcasing local food and drink producers and highlighting our wonderful craft workers, there’s a lot going on in our little part of Carmarthenshire, and we want everyone to know about it, that’s why we’ve made the event FREE for the public to attend.
Our Viking friends the BlaeddauDu re-enactment group will be staging mock battles and showing us their weaponry and craft skills, plus children under 10 years can learn how to form a ‘shield wall’ and battle the Viking warriors. Our four-legged friends are well catered for, with a companion dog show and there’s also a chance to see our talented shepherds in action over at the sheepdog trials. We have a selection of craft courses for you to enjoy, including a wild food foraging walk, and poured pewter jewellery, then in our fully equipped food theatre we’ll have a selection of chefs giving us cookery demonstrations, skills and talks on subjects from bread making to nutrition.
Eat well-eat local, you’ll be able to do just that with our wonderful food and drink producers who can be found selling their produce in our food marquee, then if you’re looking for that unique gift you can head over to our 2 craft marquees where our very talented craft producers will be selling their products, and our local spinners guilds will be demonstrating their hand spinning and weaving skills, along with wood working demonstrations and not forgetting our display of Native and Rare breed sheep.
For our energetic visitors we have a fun run and our wonderful, wool sack races for teams of 4, you’ll find them racing around the market square carrying a 70kg wool sack, battling it out for a top cash prize.
There’s also an eclectic mix of live music, plus talks and presentations on subjects ranging from wool to hedgehog rescue, plus other exhibitions and events including Martyn Geraint the children’s entertainer. If you’re hungry or thirsty after all of that our street food vendors, local cafes and take-aways will be able to offer something to suit everyone.
So put the date in your diary, as there’s sure to be a big ‘Croeso’ waiting for you, and did we mention it’s FREE!
